Mahwah Black Mold

Suffern NY. — As the Mahwah River’s flood waters have now receded, residents are returning to find damaging black mold creeping into their homes.  “It’s all in our air conditioning system and in our vents now,” says Suffern resident Michael Matheson.  Matheson and his wife Doreen watched as flood waters moved up into their backyard and nearly to the top of their 3 foot tall deck.  “Our cars were totaled, but our insurance company came out and towed them, they’ve already cut us a check for them too,” he said.  Mahwah Black mold can be quite a serious problem.

But his main concern has now become the mold, my insurance policy doesn’t cover mold. The Red Cross is going door-to-door in the flood zones of Rockland County, looking to assist folks as much as possible with those types of issues. A representative from FEMA told us they’d be setting up a relief center in the next two weeks to help with the mold and structural problems as well.

“Getting rid of black mold can be difficult, the problem is making sure all the moisture and humidity that it’s feeding on is gone before you start, with all of the rain and power outages it has been almost impossible.  Says Joe Margherita a mold removal specialist.  “And that’s the problem,” Matheson said. He says they still haven’t dried out fully.
